Privacy policy
How we handle your data when you read, comment on or sign up to The Vissyion's newsletters.

Who we are
The Vissyion is a forum of independent journalists in the media. We are responsible for the personal data described on this page. For any privacy question, write to [email protected].
What we collect and why
Newsletters: when you sign up we keep your email address, the newsletters you chose and when you signed up, only to send you those newsletters. Every email has an unsubscribe link; after you unsubscribe we send you nothing more.
Comments: when you comment we keep the name you type, the text and the time. Comments appear publicly once the newsroom approves them. No account or email is needed to comment.
Visit statistics: we measure which pages are read to understand what interests readers. We use no cookies for this. From your IP address and browser we create an anonymous code that changes every day; the IP address itself is not stored. We keep the page read, where you came from (e.g. Google or Facebook), the type of device, browser, system and country. This data is kept for 13 months.
Contact: when you email us, we use your message only to reply.
Cookies
Our public site sets no advertising or tracking cookies. Videos posted from YouTube, Vimeo or Facebook are played by those providers; when you play them they may set cookies under their own rules. For YouTube we use the privacy-enhanced version.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your data or share it for advertising. The ads on the site are images we place ourselves and they do not track you.
We use these service providers, which process data only on our behalf: Hetzner (the server, in Germany, EU), Cloudflare (site protection and speed, storage of photos and backups) and Google Firebase (only for newsroom staff sign-in, not for readers).
How long we keep it
Newsletter emails until you unsubscribe. Comments as long as the article is online, or until you ask us to remove them. Visit statistics 13 months. Database backups 30 days.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your data, or object to its use. Write to [email protected] and we will reply within 30 days.
If you think we have not handled it properly, you can complain to Albania's Commissioner for the Right to Information and Personal Data Protection. Readers in the European Union can also turn to their own national authority.
Changes
When the way we handle data changes, we update this page and the date above.
